Plymouth Moor View MP, Johnny Mercer, joined Wrigleys at their factory in Estover as they celebrated 90 years in the UK with a tree planting ceremony.
Wrigley’s factory and head office have been in Plymouth since 1970, in which time the company has become imbedded in the community. Several of Wrigley’s world famous brands are manufactured in Plymouth, including Wrigley’s Extra®, Airwaves® and Hubba Bubba®
Today, Wrigley’s Plymouth employees represent the majority of the company’s UK workforce and the factory site covers over 45 acres – 28 of which are natural habitat. To mark their 90th anniversary, they have planted 90 trees at the site in symbolic commemoration of the anniversary and as a further investment into the biodiversity of Wrigley’s Plymouth site.
As local MP, Johnny Mercer said:
“Congratulations to Wrigley as they celebrate 90 years of manufacturing in the UK. I am proud to be associated with the Plymouth factory which has been positioned in the north of the city for more than half of the company’s existence in the UK.
“I welcome the continuing investment Wrigley are making into Plymouth – their presence is significant to the city and its economy. I hope that we might be celebrating many more milestones for the company in Plymouth in the years to come.”
Commenting on the day, Supply Director, Kevin Fox said: “This is a proud occasion for Wrigley and a landmark moment for all of us. Ours is a long and proud UK story and we are delighted to be celebrating such a special occasion with our Associates and friends in Plymouth. Our main aim for today was to demonstrate to them that they are vital to our continued development and success.
“We are a family-owned company, which means that, although we are large, we foster a supporting and collaborative atmosphere – creating an extension of the family at work. We have been investing in our people, products and the future of our manufacturing business for 90 years, and are committed to doing so in the decades to come.”
