My statement on Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary review of crime recording in Devon and Cornwall

“It is disappointing to see that Devon and Cornwall Police have been rated as ‘inadequate’ with reference to crime recording however, I am reassured by the Police and Crime Commissioner’s comments on work already undertaken to rectify this matter as well as the Chief Constable’s assessment that progress has already been made on this matter.

“While the accuracy recording rate of crime may only be 82%, it is positive to see DCP’s focus to put the victim first is so paramount that Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary noted that in cases where a crime had not been recorded, almost all had safeguarding and victim care services provided to the victim. Yet there is always progress to be made and I know the Chief Constable and his team are the ones to make that happen.

“I will continue my work with DCP to ensure the safety and security for constituents of Plymouth Moor View and any constituents concerned about this, or any other matter of local policing, can write to me in the normal way.”
