Local MP tackles unpleasant odour at Plymouth’s waste incinerator
Plymouth Moor View MP, Johnny Mercer, has received assurances that the terrible smells coming from the waste incinerator recently are being dealt with.
A number of concerned residents have contacted Mr Mercer in recent weeks to raise their concerns about the smells coming from the waste incinerator plant. After raising the issue with the Environment Agency, he has received assurances that they have been working with the Devonport Energy from Waste site to ensure the issue is dealt with as a matter of urgency.
The odours have been linked to a planned site shutdown during its maintenance period. The operator, MVV, has been informed by the Environment Agency hat the odour is unacceptable. As a result, MVV have been asked to review their odour control system, and look at how is can be improved.
Speaking about the situation, Mr Mercer said:
‘I am so pleased that the residents’ concerns are now being reinforced by the Environment Agency so that we are in a strong position to get the odour problem sorted out. Every organisation involved must work really hard to mitigate the problems arising from the incinerator, in good faith on behalf of the local residents’.
