I’ve been working with Plymouth City Council, the Department of Health and Public health England since I was elected in 2015 to improve Plymouth’s funding settlement.
That isn’t to say that the public health provision isn’t excellent, it really is. However, when the process in which funding was allocated changed about 4 years ago, Plymouth was kept on its historically low rate, despite the need being higher than comparatively more wealthy areas, or even relatively similar ones.
Since being elected, it has been one of my focuses to improve this settlement and I have worked with Ministers, officials at Public Health England and officers of the Council to bring about this change. Today, I wrote to the Minister to follow up a written question from the start of the year where the previous Minister agreed to look at a review of the system.
You can see a copy of my letter to the Minister here.
