Pledge for extra NHS funding by Christmas successful
Conservative MP Johnny Mercer, succeeds in bid for extra funding at Derriford Hospital.
It has been announced that, following promises for increased funding made last month by Johnny Mercer, Derriford Hospital’s bid has been successful, with an additional £30 million being promised.
Mr Mercer has said:
“I promised I would get this money by Christmas because I knew it was so badly needed. I am absolutely delighted for the staff who have worked so hard for so long in a hospital that has genuinely struggled to cope with the extraordinary demands of a health service that has changed completely
from the 1970’s when it was built. Plymouth is tired of politicians who talk a lot and deliver nothing. With two big wins – this and the basing of the Type 26’s, it is a wonderful end to a successful, but at times tough year, in bringing major investment to Plymouth.
I’m delighted for Ann and all the team – I cannot think of a Chief Executive who deserves it more. We have a special hospital, with special people who work there. I’m thrilled for them.
