Another month and another office expense… this time for Social Media.
The fact is that I am not one that enjoys spending all of his time on Facebook and Twitter, yet accepts that it is an important part of being a Member of Parliament in 2016. There is a constant debate about getting politics to younger people, and we work hard to cross this divide. My team work hard to try and keep up with output that can be viewed over 140,000 times, receiving over 1200 likes and comments that we try and respond to. We do this in order to keep up engagement with those who find this the easiest way of reaching out to their MP. (For example…) Paying somebody in the local economy to try and help us do that seems a reasonable office expense to me.
MP’s are entitled to claim expenses in the conduct of their duties; a process that is rigorously enforced by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.
