Last Friday, Johnny Mercer visited one of the largest employers in his Plymouth Moor View constituency, BD (formally known as Becton Dickinson).
Manufacturing 20% of the worlds medical products such as the needles and containers used by medical professionals for taking blood samples, the plant in Belliver is of real significance to Plymouth.
During his visit, Johnny met with senior managers who explained their future plans for development and the impact of their work in Plymouth on the international medical products market, before being shown around the plant and meeting a variety of staff.
As the Brexit process is set to officially begin this week, this American company is very positive about their continued investment in UK – great news for Plymouth.
Speaking after his visit Johnny said:
‘I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to BD on Friday. Hearing of their existing 35 plus year commitment to Plymouth and their plans for further future investment in our city was a great end to a busy week in Westminster.
‘Companies like BD highlight the fact Plymouth is a strong location for manufacturing technology firms. Their commitment to growing local talent to staff their business in the city fits really well with the work I am doing to promote Plymouth as a city in which to do business, building on our unique selling points such as a high standard of living and a fantastic location.
‘I look forward to tracking BD’s continued expansion, working with them as we seek to see Plymouth grow as a viable home for international manufacturing technology firms.’
